Glass Pipes or Bongs: Which Gets You More Stoned?
Do Glass Pipes get you as stoned as using a Bong?
A question as old as pipes themselves, which of these two classic stoner styles will help you hit that perfect high the fastest? Pipes have been a staple in every stoners house for as long as the community can remember, with the newer glass designs being more resistant to bumps and less about pretty colors in recent years. Bongs, another household staple, have also come leaps and bounds in the last few years. With advancements in cannabis research and various scientific discoveries, bongs have evolved from the simple stem and water technique to gorgeous mixes of filters and coils all created to improve your session. Ice pinches, different arm angles, every decision made with enhanced highs in mind! But are these additions able to beat the classic pipe? Do they get you equally high? Or is the glass pipe able to jump ahead? That is what we are here to figure out today, pitching the two against each other to find the ultimate stoner set piece! Having experimented and fallen in love with different pieces in both camps, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned over hundreds of high hours.
Local vs Let’s Go!
The biggest and most obvious difference between glass pipes and bongs is size, with one sitting calmly in the palm of your hand and the other able to be a centerpiece of a dinner table. Bongs are historically extravagant looking, with a variety of colors and patterns scattered through, to the point where they could be mistaken for vases by the unaware. This could swing both ways, depending on how you like to enjoy your sessions. Are you someone who works a functional high, topping up throughout the day? A pipe will keep you stoned! Do you prefer a homely session with friends? The bong is best for you. Both can be swapped into the other role, don’t get me wrong! All the more to you if you carry around your bong like a portable pipe.
Bowl you over
We have already touched on the advantages of portability and home based pieces, but here’s a biggie. Unless you’re in an area where weed is legal, you probably keep your weed in one place: your house. And where’s your bong? Your house. Glass pipes can fit a certain amount while out and about, but nothing can beat instant access to fresh bud. Though not technically about getting stoned, it’s hard to get stoned if you’ve run out of herb!
Maintaining that high note
It’s time to talk about the one thing we don’t want to, the part of using bongs we all like to ignore: bong water. Filtration is pretty cool (we will touch on that in the next paragraph, I promise!) but the aftermath is not exactly our favorite thing in the world. Bong water can give you splashback, giving you a literal splash back to reality. Bong water can be smelly, it can damage your bong, it can be a harsh reminder of reality when you need to stop halfway through a session to give your piece a quick scrub and a water swap. There are also some arguments over water removing some THC while they filter, which can change per session but is always a slight possibility. Pipes are super easily to maintain, meaning they take this point.
Filtering out the bad
While bong water might be bad, it causes are so so good! Developments in the last handful of years have helped us reach a point where almost every bong has a complicated interior made to improve removing the negative aspects of combustion and burning weed before it reached your mouth. Luckily, they genuinely work! Rather than adding bells and whistles just for appearance, there are a wide array of options on the market to help you get super stoned without all the downsides. Glass pipes avoid the water but miss out on the more intense filtration options, which can lead to some throat irritation.
I’m going to be honest with you all, this is a bit of a tricky one! It really depends on the person. If like me, you enjoy relaxing in the evening after work with a few hits and tv on the sofa then bongs are your best mate. For someone who likes smoking throughout the day, or outside while adventuring in the world, then pipes are more easily accessible and able to get you high. One thing should not be looked over, they’re both equally good for getting you mad stoned! The only thing that impacts the quality here is the scenario you find yourself in. My solution? Grab one of each and find what works for you! There’s a whole world of pieces out there that can fit your lifestyle, it’s personal preference at the end of the day. And don’t forget you can always get the best of both worlds by attaching your pipe to your bong!
